WOW, That set up was easy! No strings attached!
The last camping trip I went on with my grandson and his cub scout troop, I borrowed my son-in-law’s tent. It was an Alpha Camp 8 person instant cabin tent. One of the first things I noticed about the tent was its rugged construction. It just felt well-made.
I didn’t know what an “instant” family camping tent was until I used this one. The tent went up in a matter of a few minutes and only required myself and one other adult to set it up. Once you get the tent out of the carrying bag. It practically popped up by itself (well not quite that easy, but close).
There were no loose poles to deal with and no poles to put together. We literally had the entire camp set up in about 5-10 minutes.
When the camp out was over, the tent was just as easy to take down as it was to set up. The pole system is integrated with the fabric of the tent and all you have to do is push a few pole buttons and let the tent collapse. It is then ready for the carry bag.
Many features makes camping easy!
This family camping tent measures 12’x 9′ and is 76” in center height. It weighs approximately 20 pounds.
It will sleep 8 people comfortably, but if you allow for space to store some of your camping equipment, then it will more realistically sleep about 4-6 adults. This is large enough to accommodate 2 queen size air mattresses.
It also has a large door and 2 half windows for complete ventilation. Polyester mesh is in each window to protect you from those summer bugs, Mosquitoes here in Texas.
The tent is made of advanced polyester that has a water repellent outer body and a silver coating inside that helps with the UV protection from the sun and it’s effects.
The integrated poles are made of a lightweight steel that provides adequate strength during the high wind conditions.
The first night of our camp out with the cub scouts, it rained and this tent provided a comfortable and dry environment for us while we slept.
Can it all be good?
What I liked about the Alpha Camp:
- The tent had plenty of side pouches stitched on the inside wall for storage of personal items such as car key and wallets.
- The tent came with an electrical plug window to allow extension cords to come into the tent. During our trip, the outside temperature was in the low 30s F, so the electrical port allowed us to keep warm with an electric space heater (convection heater).
- The tent had reflection ability at night which was a feature I personally liked.
- Overall tent and accessories was relatively lightweight and easy to get to the camp site.
- The rain shield that goes over the tent gives it the added security against getting wet.
What I didn’t like about the Alph Camp:
- This tent only had one room, no room dividers. If we had camped with friends, the added privacy would have been nice to have.
- Even though the side pouches were nice, there could have been a few more.
- Polyester is one of the most popular tent fabrics on the scene today, but this material is a low insulator.
What I recommend
Overall, this is a great family camping tent. If you are just starting out in the outdoor life of camping, this is a great tent to 
get started with. Even the seasoned camper will like this tent.
The tent is designed for the human needs and access as it has high side walls that maximize the living space inside. It has a well re-enforced bottom that wraps up around the sides of the tent for added security and dryness during large rain falls.
My camping experience in this family camping tent was a great one and I would highly recommend to anyone that is in the tent market to take a serious look at this one and buy it.

Hi Don – thanks for your article on ALPHA CAMP 8 Person Instant Cabin Tent. It has been a while since I was searching for a tent and it looks like technology has come a long way to provide an easier high quality product to be purchased. I like that this is easy to set up. We do a lot of spring and fall camping and even winter (once a year) and the easy set up and collapsing will go a long way for us as in the past we’ve learned that our hands get so cold trying to get the poles in the fabric and vice versa trying to take them out, that on cold trips, we just quickly take the poles out, through the tent in the back and roll it up when we get home. Sounds like some of the features on this tent would be perfect to avoid that. – appreciate the information for our consideration. Lyndsay
This particular tent was enjoyable to camp with because of the pop up feature and that it has no tie down cords that kids can get tangled up in as they paly around the camp site. I’m glad you enjoyed the review and hope you can recommend this to your friends that might be in the market to buy a tent. This is a great tent for someone that wants to get the camp set up quickly so they can enjoy nature.
As to winter camping, we set up a oil filled convection heater in the tent and it kept us warm through the night. We were lucky the camp ground provided an electrical hookup and water.
