Is the Coleman Portable Propane Coffee Maker worth the Money?

A Product Review of the Coleman QuikPot™ Propane Coffee Maker

When I wake up in the morning, I walk straight to the coffee maker in the kitchen. This is my morning routine.

Recently I went camping and when I woke up on the first morning, my reaction was to make coffee.

I soon recognized that my first cup of coffee was going to take some time and some actual work to get to that first brew.

On this morning, it had rained the night before and the first thing I needed to do to get coffee going was to start a campfire.

Fortunately the hot coals in the fire pit were still hot and I was able to get a fire started will little effort, but it still takes time to rebuild enough hot coals to cook on.

Once these coals were hot, I then needed to wait for the pot of water to boil. Then I made my first cup of “instant” coffee, instant being the roughing part of my camping trip.

I kept telling myself, there has to be a faster and better tasting way to brew a cup of coffee for camping out. Then I came across the different types of camping portable coffee makers.

Coleman QuikPot™ Propane Coffee maker, Product Overview

I would like to introduce you to the Coleman QuikPot Propane Coffee maker that is totally portable for your camping needs.

This propane coffee maker is powered by a standard propane cylinder that you will find at any camp out supply store. These cylinders will also come in a 4 pack for a savings and can be used for any typical camp out propane portable stove.

If you use a portable propane stove while you camp, this coffee maker will free up your burners on the stove as it is powered independently. This helps when you are cooking for more than 2 campers and gets the meals prepared faster.

This unit comes with a “perfect-flow” regulator for easily adjusting the temperature and an instant on button for easily lighting the burner. This coffee maker comes with a 10 cup capacity and a brew time of about 15 minutes.

This unit will work well in just about any condition, including moderate winds. It can be manually lite if the push button light fail to operate such as in wet conditions.

The Good & the Bad

What I like:

  • The price is very competitive to the other alternatives
  • It makes coffee the way I like to drink it, freshly brewed.
  • It is independent from having to heat hit over the campfire.
  • It is easy to lite and makes 10 cups of coffee in 15 minutes.
  • Easy to clean and fairly compact.
  • Operates same as a drip coffee maker from your kitchen.

What I didn’t like:

  • It is too heavy for backpacking.
  • The sparker may not work in a heavy dew morning, but you can manually light.

Who is QuikPot™ Propane Coffeemaker For?

This product is made for the camp ground camper. If you are going to camp by backpacking, this unit is not for you as it is slightly bulky and too heavy for the backpacker.

QuikPot™ Propane Coffee Maker Tools & Training

No tools or training required if you know how to make coffee from a drip coffee maker as you find in the everyday kitchen.

However, several options can be found for this coffee maker to help you enjoy a great brew of coffee, such as the stainless steel carafe.

My Final Opinion of QuikPot™ Propane Coffee Maker

If you are looking for the taste of freshly brewed coffee in the morning while camping out, I would recommend the Coleman QuikPot Propane Coffee Maker. The unit is small enough for the park camper and sets up and cleans up easily.

If you camp a lot, you might want to consider buying the stainless steel carafe as it is more rugged and will not break like the glass carafe might.

My Verdict: Yea or Nay…

Before I go on my next camp out with my grandson and his cub scout troop, I have 2 main purchases that I will need to make, a bigger tent and this coffee maker.

My first cup of coffee in the morning is a very important part of the day for me. I am just not the same without it.

So my verdict is yes, buy this unit and start camping while enjoying that freshly brewed cup of Joe.

I can smell the coffee now!

  1. Interesting, I have never seen these! I go camping, but I go in my 5th wheel, so my coffee pot is just a cheap one that plugs in and we leave it on the counter. But if I were tenting or in a pop-up, this would be perfect!

    1. A 5th wheel is not camping. lol

This is a good choice for the tent camper so they don’t have to wait too long for that first cup of Joe in the morning. No need to start a camp fire early in the morning with one of these Coleman Portable Coffee Maker.
